LASM News

Ecumenical Bible Study, Meet Ambrose

Ecumenical Bible Study
Jesus' Earthly ministry: How He prepared for Easter
Preparing our hearts for Easter through prayer and scripture study with fellow Christians can help us experience the most out of this special day. Join Lindenwood Area Senior Ministry for a 4-session ecumenical bible study led by Concordia Seminary student, Ambrose Shaltanis. We’ll examine the life of Jesus going over the most important parts of His ministry. This will include Jesus’ baptism and entering into the wilderness, some of His miracles, the transfiguration, and the passion. We will gather in Memorial Hall of Southwest Baptist Church (6401 Scanlan) at 1pm on Wednesdays, March 5, 12, April 2, 9. Please RSVP to attend one or more sessions by contacting katie@lasministry.org or 314-647-4591.

Meet Ambrose
This spring, Ambrose Shaltanis, a first-year seminary student from Concordia Seminary, is doing a semester of service learning with LASM! Originally from Plano, TX, Ambrose moved to St. Louis in August to begin seminary. Ambrose enjoys all types of music, playing the organ, learning from and having conversations, and spending time outdoors. He will be shadowing Katie and Leigh to learn the ins and outs of how our senior ministry works, assist with LASM activities, and even facilitate a Lenten bible study. He is open to providing caring visits to those in need of prayer and support. If you would like a visit from Ambrose, please reach out to Katie to arrange, katie@lasministry.org or 314-647-4591. Please join us in welcoming Ambrose!

Food Pantry Needs, March 2025

The food pantry has been very blessed with the contributions from the Orphan Grain Train and the pantry is very well stocked except for a few items.

The pantry is in need of the following:

cereal, canned spaghetti sauce, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dish detergent, bath soap, canned pineapple, canned fruit, and toilet paper.

We request no more contributions of canned corn and green beans as we are greatly overstocked with these items.

 Thanks for your help.

We are also seeking donations of in-kind gifts such as gift certificates, event tickets, coupons or new items for raffle baskets and grab bags. TIme

TIme

- Monday, February 24, 2025

This past week we experienced something rare – an extra day on February 29, Yet, just as quickly, we find ourselves losing an hour of sleep due to Daylight Saving Time this week.  It reminds us that Time is a precious commodity and it is fleeting.  We can’t make any more of it and no matter our status, wealth, or circumstances, we all have the same amount of it each day.

So, what will you do with the time that you have been given?  What will you choose to do with the time that God has set before you?

It is easy to squander time - We can make some pretty poor choices - It's easy to squander time—mindlessly scrolling on our phones, binging TV shows, or overloading ourselves with work at the expense of relationships. Yet, God calls us to something greater.

God urges us in Ephesians 5:16-17  - Make the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

While our time is limited - God’s is unlimited.  Our days are numbered, His love, His power, His mercy and purposes are infinite.  God makes time for you - just you.  He took the time to save you.  And today he takes the time for just you to guide you, provide for you and protect you.

How will you use your fleeting time today?  Can you spend it moments of prayer?  Can you give of it to encourage someone?  Can you share God’s love in the way you use yoru time?  When we give our time to God, He transforms it into something eternal—something that echoes beyond the ticking of the clock and the turning of the calendar.

Today, use your limited time for the unlimited purposes of God.
