WORTH THE RISK
A Five-Week Journey Through Gospel Commitment
January 18 – February 15, 2026
We are surrounded by choices. More options than any generation in history. And we've started to believe that somewhere out there is the perfect job, the ideal relationship, the best church, the optimized life. So we keep our options open. We channel-surf. We hedge our bets.
But here's the problem: you can only discover the deeper truth in something by committing to it fully. You can research a job forever, but you won't know what it's really like until you show up. You can evaluate churches endlessly, but you won't experience Christian community until you plant yourself somewhere. As the philosopher Søren Kierkegaard wrote, "Truth is subjectivity"—meaning the profound truths of life can only be known from the inside, through full commitment.
And every real commitment requires risk. You can't know ahead of time that it will "work out." That's what makes it a leap of faith.
So why don't we risk? Ultimately, our fear of commitment is fueled by our fear of death itself. We feel the clock ticking and panic that we might waste our lives on the wrong things. Kierkegaard called this "the wine of possibility"—the intoxicating fantasy that something better is always just around the corner.
But what if you're already full? What if Christ has already given you everything you need for life and wholeness? What if you don't have to achieve perfection in your worldly life because your significance is secure in him? That's the gospel promise that makes risk possible.
Join us for five weeks as we explore:
Risky Life (Jan 18) – What if you committed to this life instead of the life you imagine you should have?
Risky Church (Jan 25) – What if you planted yourself in imperfect community instead of shopping for the perfect congregation?
Risky Friendship (Feb 1) – What if you risked being truly known instead of keeping everyone at arm's length?
Risky Generosity (Feb 8) – What if you trusted God with your actual dollars instead of just your theoretical faith?
Risky Vision (Feb 15) – What if you let wonder and transcendence interrupt your carefully managed life?
This isn't about recklessness. It's about freedom. When Christ becomes the center of your universe, the pressure's off. You can commit deeply without demanding perfection. You can invest fully without treating people or places as your ultimate source of life.
As Kierkegaard wrote: "Face the facts of being what you are, for that is what changes what you are."
The Christian life isn't about keeping your options open. It's about going all in. Because some things are worth the risk.
