On Wednesday, Oct. 15th, the Sing-along focused on a hymn by Martin Luther, written in 1524, From Depths of Woe I Cry to Thee.  The text, found in our Lutheran Book of Service, 607, is a poetic setting of Psalm 130, "Out of the Depths I Cry to Thee, O Lord". It's one of the first hymns that Luther wrote based on the Psalms. We compared the text with the Psalm, noted the use of the Phrygian Mode with the lowered 2nd that helps to make the melody fit the words of a penitent cry for help. We also listened to a modern symphonic rendition of Bach's organ piece based on this hymn.
We invite you to come join us at 11 o'clock on Wednesdays to sing favorite songs and hymns, listen to music, and share in fellowship!
